A conversation Bruno Fernandes had with a Newport player during Manchester United’s FA Cup trip was very telling.

The true nature of Bruno Fernandes was exposed by Newport County forward Will Evans after the team’s thrilling FA Cup fourth-round matchup with Manchester United last month. In a thrilling match at Rodney Parade, the League Two team held their own, and Fernandes’s remark to Evans demonstrated his class.

After just seven minutes, Bruno Fernandes opened the score by putting Antony’s cutback into the net. Six minutes later, Kobbie Mainoo scored his first senior goal, doubling the visitors’ lead.

Altay Bayindir had no chance to intervene after United squandered a flurry of opportunities before Bryn Morris gave Newport a glimmer of hope with a spectacular long-range strike.

Evans made headlines two minutes after the half when he brilliantly equalized for the home team by putting a square ball past Bayindir to hint at a huge upset in South Wales.

However, United’s quality won out that evening as Antony scored his first goal of the year and Rasmus Hojlund scored a clear goal in stoppage time to secure a 4-2 victory and advancement.

Since then, Evans has talked about his experiences playing against some of the biggest names in football, like Fernandes.

The 26-year-old has also disclosed a three-word remark made by the United captain to him following his equalizer, which perfectly encapsulated his humility.

Naturally, there are some Liverpool supporters on our team as well,” Evans said in a podcast with Goalposts TV.

We’re expressing our excitement about meeting Antony or Bruno, and everyone left the pitch with the same impression of each of them.

Saying they’re the most sincere, but in reality, they’re just regular guys. As I was sprinting back after scoring my goal, Bruno gave me a pat on the back and said, “Nice finish, buddy.”

“Regarding Bryn Morris’ goal, he stated in his post-game interview that “the boy scored a brilliant strike [unbelievable shot] just before half-time.” You also believe that he didn’t need to say that.

Evans also praised Diogo Dalot, a Portuguese teammate of Fernandes, as the United player who most impressed him throughout the match.

“Dalot [impressed me the most],” he said. I was watching a ball that passed over my head that was probably chest height when I noticed him standing in front of me.

And he simply backheeled it back to the keeper while it was in the air. And I simply wondered, what? What chance do I have left?

“Plus, he moves quickly. He moves like lightning. It did not surprise me. He was crazy for me, and as you said, you’re not surprised by that.”
