Fulham captain Tom Cairney could be banned from the Club due to his surprising comments on Manchester United

Surprisingly, Tom Cairney, the captain of Fulham, has acknowledged that he wants to see Manchester United, their bitter rival in the Premier League, rise back to the top and begin taking home trophies on a regular basis.

Speaking on The Players Channel, Cairney said that if United returned to their previous level of play, it would be beneficial for the Premier League.

Cairney’s remarks coincide with United’s return to the top four after their Sunday 2-1 victory over Aston Villa.

With a late winner, Scott McTominay gave Erik ten Hag’s team all three points and closed the gap on fourth-place Tottenham Hotspur to just six points.

“I want Man United to be a top team, just for the Premier League in general,” stated the Fulham player.

I’m having fun watching them once more. They looked strong against Villa, in my opinion. It’s encouraging to see Man United scoring goals and moving forward, even though their top scorer is a midfield player. They just seem like a threat going forward.

He clarified that he anticipated both Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes to have scored in double figures by the end of the campaign.

McTominay was one more United player Cairney spoke candidly about.

The captain of Fulham stated that McTominay’s ability to score goals as a midfielder is a unique quality in today’s game and that Ten Hag will eventually start him again in the starting lineup.

The Scotland international is currently United’s top Premier League scorer for the current campaign.

“He has obviously gone further back but sometimes you can see [he used to be a striker],” Cairney said of the Carrington academy alumnus. His finishing in the box is quite precise. Similar to touch, bang. I recall the one at home in Brentford when they returned.

“I don’t believe that ever goes from you. He is by far Scotland’s top goalscorer, and he has an absurd international record as well. The manager must eventually have the thought, “Oh my god, I really need to add this guy to my team.” Striking midfielders are hard to come by these days.

Next up for United is a return trip to Kenilworth Road over the weekend to play Luton Town.
