EPL: Paul Merson advises Arsenal star to fight for his place in Arteta’s squad

Aaron Ramsdale has been advised by Arsenal legend Paul Merson to “fight for his place” in the team.

Since Brentford, a Premier League rival, unexpectedly signed David Raya on loan to Arsenal, Ramsdale’s future has been in doubt.

With Ramsdale having played in just one Premier League game since the beginning of September, Raya has assumed the top spot in Mikel Arteta’s team.

Ramsdale may therefore try to leave the Gunners during the January transfer window in order to pursue regular playing time at a different team, according to rumors.

“Ramsdale signed a legal agreement. They added another goalie, who is currently ranked first. It’s as simple as that: he needs to fight for his position, Merson said to Sky Sports.

You can’t just say, “Oh, I’m not on the team,” after signing these contracts for 100,000 or 150,000 a week. Tomorrow morning, I’m heading out because I want to play somewhere else.

Goalies are in a terrible position. Having two elite goalkeepers is an extremely rare occurrence, which Arsenal possesses.

“However, where will you go? You are not traveling to either Manchester United or Liverpool. I see Chelsea as the only one, and I don’t see Arsenal selling to Chelsea.

Therefore, in my opinion, he will need to defend his position. The only thing going for him right now, in my opinion, is that he is still young, and goalkeeping is the one position where getting older usually results in improved play.
