We decided to let him join Arsenal because he had the audacity to disturb the tranquilly within the team, but he shouldn’t be upset if Arsenal treats him badly, like they did Aubameyang. This Monday, the club president confirmed the choice of the team captain to join Arsenal.

Mikel Merino, the general of Arsenal’s midfield, is expected to sign a contract with Real Sociedad.
Arsenal is optimistic about obtaining Real Sociedad star Mikel Merino, according to a Football Insider report. The Gunners are in negotiations with the Spanish club to finalise the signing of the midfield player in order to bolster their midfield.

Merino moved from Newcastle to Sociedad back in 2018. Even if his previous attempt at playing in the Premier League didn’t work out, he appears to be planning a comeback to England. Last season, the Spanish international had an outstanding campaign with 45 appearances, eight goals, and five assists. He even contributed significantly to Spain’s victory in Euro 2024.

Nonetheless, Merino appears prepared to leave Sociedad with less than a year remaining on his contract. The player is anticipated to depart the club before the transfer window closes, despite the Spanish club’s desire to keep him longer and their readiness to offer him a lucrative new contract.

Arsenal feels upbeat about signing Michael Merino
It was reported that Arsenal might face difficulties if Martin Zubimendi were to join Liverpool. The 25-year-old was getting close to joining the Merseyside team, thus there were worries Sociedad may prevent Merino from leaving. However, those concerns have been dispelled.

It appears that the Spanish team will miss out on two of its top players from the previous campaign. Thomas Partey’s availability is in doubt, therefore Mikel Arteta is searching for a new number six, and Jorinho is not expected to play a bigger role.

Even though Merino would much rather play as a central midfielder, the two of them might make a fantastic double pivot duo. The player has already had discussions with the Gunners and approved the transfer.

The North London team is still in negotiations with Sociedad in an attempt to finalise a deal for his transfer. The player is also pressing for the move to be completed, and Arsenal is optimistic about it happening soon.
