Erik ten Hag confirmed that Marcus Rashford played despite being injured in the Manchester derby.

Erik ten Hag stated that Marcus Rashford and Jonny Evans played with injuries during the Manchester derby on Sunday and had to be substituted in the second half.

Manchester United fell 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium, despite Rashford scoring a fantastic goal to give them the lead in the eighth minute.

Phil Foden scored two goals and Erling Haaland scored a late third goal, leading the champions to a remarkable triumph. However, Manchester United faced difficulties due to their persistent injury issues.

 

Ten Hag mentioned that Rashford and Evans insisted on participating in the match despite not being fully fit, without specifying the issues they were facing.

Two players on the field were not fully fit. Jonny Evans and Marcus Rashford performed well, mirroring the effort of the entire team. However, the team feels disheartened by the final result. Ten Hag informed Sky Sports.

Regarding their current status, he stated that he was uncertain and unable to provide details. Eventually, they had to be substituted, but he chose to retain Rashford and Evans because to their effective organization.

Rashford displayed strong defensive skills and we were aware of his attacking prowess during the counterattack, where he had the opportunity to score another goal.

He stated that they competed to participate in the game, but after 60-70 minutes, they had to be substituted. That was not beneficial for us.

Ten Hag considered his team’s performance to be strong, even though they lost and are now 11 points below the top four.

He stated that he believed it was a strong overall effort, since they took a 1-0 lead and had opportunities to score a second goal.

We defended effectively and had two critical situations where we came close to scoring the first goal but also risked conceding.

‘If you are disappointed, we must acknowledge that. Despite that, we had chances to secure at least one point, and even a victory was within reach.’
