Revealed: Chelsea’s stance on selling Conor Gallagher as Tottenham retain interested in Blues midfielder

The Daily Mail reported that there has been no substantial advancement in the negotiations about the extension of the midfielder’s contract at Chelsea. Tottenham and other Premier League teams are closely monitoring the possibility of making a summer transfer for the England international. However, Gallagher is prioritizing staying at Stamford Bridge and has no intention of leaving. Chelsea is now reluctant to pay Gallagher more than their informal weekly salary limit of £150,000, according to the source. Gallagher is approaching the final year of his contract.

Chelsea denies any issue, although it is believed that the club is facing pressure to offload players this summer to adhere to profit and sustainability guidelines (PSR). Since Gallagher was developed through the Chelsea academy, his sale would be considered a net gain on the PSR financial sheet. If Chelsea were to sell Gallagher, they would want a minimum of £50 million due to his contract having only one year remaining. It is uncertain if teams will be willing to pay that sum for a player who might be obtainable at no cost in the next season.

It is peculiar that Gallagher might be traded this summer since he is a top contender to win Chelsea’s player of the year award this season. At 24 years old, he joined Chelsea’s academy at the age of eight. He has scored four goals in his last five games for the squad and became the captain this season when Reece James was absent.

What is the next step for Gallagher?
The English player is expected to start once more under Mauricio Pochettino when the Blues face Brentford on Saturday, March 2, aiming to get back into the top half of the Premier League.
