As the rumor mill picks up steam, we brought you the news last week that initially mentioned Arsenal’s approach for Amadou Onana. Now, additional sources are supporting that information.

According to today’s report by Sacha Tavloieri, Arsenal and Everton have started holding intensive talks about Onana’s signing, and things could happen soon. The players agent’s sighting in London only served to fuel the rumors.

Despite being just 22 years old, Onana has already shown excellent technical ability, making him a viable option to take Thomas Partey’s place in Arsenal’s midfield. The Gunners were impressed by his skills when he was at Lille and continued to be so when he moved to Everton, with Arsenal even considering a bid in January of last year.

Mikel Arteta is well aware of the need for a younger midfield player with Premier League experience, as Partey is currently 30 years old and experiencing fitness issues. Onana appears to be the perfect fit because of the similarities between his playing style and Partey’s. The question of whether Arsenal should prioritize a midfielder over a forward at this point is still up for debate.

Despite Mohammed Elneny’s devotion to the Arsenal team, Partey’s superiority is becoming more apparent, particularly as Arsenal tries to maintain its position at the top of the table. Elneny’s tenure at the club appears to be in doubt, which could open the door for fresh talent.

Similar to Declan Rice, Onana’s versatility in midfield makes him a valuable asset. Being able to play as a number eight as well as a number six gives Arteta a lot of options for tactical flexibility and in-game rotations.

Still unclear, though, is how Arsenal would pay for a transfer of Onana this month. The club may need to find innovative ways to deal with money constraints because of their close proximity to Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. To raise money, they might decide to sell players who are attracting interest, like Eddie Nketiah, or settle for a small upfront payment. It will be imperative for Arsenal to strike a financial balance in order to acquire Onana without jeopardizing their FFP standing.
