Man United open talks to sign ‘incredible’ £70m Benfica star as Bayern Munich shows sudden interest and ready to compete with Man utd for the player
Reports indicate that Bayern Munich will compete with Manchester United to acquire the services of Benfica’s centre-back, Antonio Silva, during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have initiated discussions to get Silva for Old Trafford and have recently dispatched scouts to observe his performance for Benfica against Portimonense.
Following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s assumption of football operations, United intends to revamp their roster and will prioritize the acquisition of a new central defender, as several prominent players are expected to depart.
Silva may perhaps emulate Victor Lindelof, who transferred from Benfica to Manchester United in 2017, and join other Portuguese compatriots Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot.
Bayern Munich, the reigning champions of Germany, will attempt to persuade Silva to reject Manchester United and instead join them at the Allianz Arena.
Recent rumors indicate that the Bundesliga giants have been impressed with Silva’s progress and have had him on their wishlist for a considerable period of time.
Despite Silva’s release clause being approximately €100 million, it is believed that Benfica would consider selling him for a price range of €70–80 million.
Silva has exclusively dedicated his professional career to Benfica, starting from their junior academy and accumulating a total of 81 matches thus far.
He contributed to Benfica’s victory in the Portuguese top-flight championship last season and was selected for the Primeira Liga Team of the Year.
Silva, now bound by a contract with Benfica until 2027, has represented Portugal on seven occasions and participated in the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar.
