Klopp discusses Liverpool’s attacking options and Diogo Jota’s “football brain.”
Jürgen Klopp praised Diogo Jota’s “football brain” following his goalscoring return to action and detailed the impact a fully fit front line can have on Liverpool’s performance.
The Portugal forward scored the game’s second goal in the Reds’ 2-0 victory over Burnley on Boxing Day, making up for eight matches missed due to a hamstring injury.
For Monday’s match, against Newcastle United at Anfield, Klopp will be able to select from a pool of five senior attackers. He also went into detail about the roles that each player can play.
When questioned specifically about what makes Jota so decisive at his pre-game press conference, the manager answered, “His football brain, he is a very smart footballer, that’s how it is.” He is especially knowledgeable about the game.
“He is unquestionably one of these players who truly understands the game on a different level, and I truly believe Portugal is blessed with some of these kind of players.” It allows him the opportunity to perceive situations a little bit sooner and adjust to the opponent’s varied tactics a little bit faster. That’s all, plus he has excellent finishing technique and both feet.
“I adore Diogo’s story; now that he’s back, I hope he stays back for the next ten years and more, but the fact is, Diogo also lost out on opportunities. It’s great that he returns and scores with his first, but there’s always the excuse that the others didn’t score, so he’s returning.Diogo is finally scoring!
