Young Manchester United player expected to sign new deal after making an impression on Erik ten Hag

Joe Hugill has spent the last month working with the Man United first team on a few occasions.

This season, a number of young players have participated in first team training sessions.

After making an impression on manager Erik ten Hag, Joe Hugill is anticipated to sign a new contract with Manchester United.

Hugill, a 20-year-old striker, has not yet made his Manchester United debut, but he was added to the matchday squad at the last minute for the victory over Everton in November.

When Hugill was called in, he was spending the weekend away from his home in the northeast and met up with his teammates at Goodison Park.

Hugill was also listed by Ten Hag as a reserve for the Champions League matches against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.

Hugill may be sent on loan by United during the January transfer window, and the team may evaluate his place in the lineup come summertime.

The only senior striker available to Ten Hag right now is Rasmus Hojlund, as Anthony Martial has missed the last four games due to illness that has lasted almost three weeks.

Hugill, a former academy product of Sunderland, has been training with the United first team on a regular basis this season. He has also scored seven goals in nine starts for the Under-23 team.

Hugill joined United in the summer of 2020 for a £300,000 contract, although Tottenham and Arsenal were also interested.
