According to reports, Arsenal will need to spend at least £60 million in January in order to sign Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

After spending an estimated £33 million to move from Lille to Goodison Park in June 2022, the 22-year-old has established himself as a key member of the Toffees’ first squad under manager Sean Dyche.

Throughout all competitions, Onana has made a total of 56 appearances for Everton, contributing three goals and three assists. This season, the box-to-box midfielder has made 21 appearances.

The Belgium international’s contract with Everton does not expire until June 2027, but he is expected to sign a high-profile deal with a team playing in Europe.

Onana’s future is reportedly being closely monitored by Manchester United in light of rumors that Everton may have to offload some of its best players in order to balance their books and stay out of trouble with the FFP.

Onana, meanwhile, is reportedly drawing serious interest from Arsenal, who reportedly spoke with Everton about a potential January transfer for the midfield player.

The Toffees have put a £60 million asking price on Onana, according to Football Insider, and they have no intention of parting ways with the Belgian this month.

Dyche, who sees his team involved in a relegation dogfight after the club’s 10-point deduction by the Premier League in November, views Onana as an essential member of the first-team squad.

The £75 million that Everton was able to recover from the 2017 deal that saw striker Romelu Lukaku go to Manchester United is currently the club record sale.

Whether Arsenal is willing to spend heavily this month after spending more than £200 million on Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber in the summer is still to be seen.

In the midst of uncertainty surrounding the long-term futures of Thomas Partey, Jorginho, Emile Smith Rowe, Mohamed Elneny, who is out of contract in June, and Onana, it is thought that the Gunners have identified him as a potential midfield target.

The Toffees midfielder is not the only player rumored to be on Arsenal’s radar; the club is also reportedly targeting strikers, with Ivan Toney of Brentford and Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi being linked with a possible move to the Emirates.

The rumors surrounding Onana’s future coincide with Everton’s purported attempt to sabotage Sevilla’s pursuit of Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri.

The 20-year-old is reportedly in talks to sign with Sevilla on a one-year loan with a buyout option, but the Toffees are eager to get the Tunisian to Goodison Park for the balance of the current campaign.
