Imagine him on this Manchester City squad—he’s good—he could have been lethal: United manager Paul Scholes was very pleased with his team’s performance despite the loss.

Many have been critical of Marcus Rashford’s play for Manchester United recently, and this has put him in the spotlight.

In the midst of all that drama, and just before his team’s derby match against Manchester City, he wasted no time responding to his detractors in the press.

Despite his team’s 3-1 victory at the Etihad on Sunday, Marcus Rashford proved once and for all that many fans prefer him to do the talking on the field.

Even though most people were betting on Pep Guardiola’s team to cruise past their opponents, Erik ten Hag—entrusted with playing down the middle—had other ideas. He scored the game’s first goal with a thunderbolt from long range after only eight minutes.

In an interview with Premier League Productions (03/03/24 at 4:25 pm), Paul Scholes praised the Manchester United academy product, calling his efforts “absolutely brilliant.”

Strikes like that were Paul Scholes’ bread and butter during his peak years, so he would have been proud of that effort from his fellow Mancunian.

The one problem is that it was yet another red half of Manchester loss to their rampant neighbors, with only Marcus Rashford receiving any credit.

Marksman Rashford’s strike in the match against Man City
“Perfection,” Scholes exclaimed. It’s straight from the goalie. Because he lets Fernandes in, I imagine Dias will be somewhat let down.

What a strike by Marcus Rashford, though. He gives it his all when it comes back to him; it’s the kind of thing that makes your eyes light up. When it also hits the crossbar, it’s even better.

With no chance of finishing in the top four, Manchester United can bid farewell to Champions League football. Ten Hag and his players have it even worse than that.

After Saturday’s results, fourth-place Aston Villa and fifth-place Tottenham are separated by eleven points thanks to Tottenham’s victory over Crystal Palace.

United can only hope that a Champions League berth becomes available in the event that they finish in fifth place; however, they are still six points behind Tottenham, who have played one fewer game.

Now you just need to keep an eye on the other teams in the top ten, such as West Ham United, Wolves, Brighton, and Newcastle United.
