Following Sunday’s loss in the Manchester derby, Bruno Fernandes spoke to the media to discuss his team’s disappointing Premier League form. Manchester City scored three goals in the second half to seal the deal.

United’s most recent loss has effectively ended their chances of finishing in the top four, as they fell eleven points behind fourth-place Aston Villa.

Even with Marcus Rashford’s early wondergoal, United still couldn’t bring home a victory. Speaking after the game, United captain Jose Mourinho acknowledged that every loss hurts the club, but he insisted that his team played with good intentions that day.

“I believe the team’s dedication was evident,” Fernandes stated in an interview with Sky Sports, as reported by the BBC.

We could have done better. We may have played a bit deep at times, but that’s City for you. You have to defend your box, and we did a great job of that in the first half. It turned out to be 1-1 from a chance that could have gone our way.

You can always improve your performance in the game, whether you’re playing as City or someone else. When City has the ball, they can put opponents behind the goal. I believe we did a good job of defending our goal, but we missed opportunities to have more possession in the second half.

After the first half, City dominated United’s strategy of absorbing the hosts’ pressure and hitting them with fast transitions.

With the exception of one sequence in the second half, United never appeared capable of achieving anything with the ball. In the opposition’s half, they failed to string more than three passes together.
