“He has now become total liability in Tottenham and this is the right time to get rid of him”-Ange could axe Spurs star who’s earning £30k-p/w more than Van de Ven

According to Angele, the Spurs star, who earns £30,000 per week more than Van de Ven, has become an absolute liability for the club and now is the time to fire him.
Since Daniel Levy recruited Ange Postecoglou from Celtic’s managerial position, Tottenham Hotspur have been among the most aggressive Premier League clubs in terms of transfer activity. There’s no indication that this trend will abate come summer.

After 26 matches, Spurs are in fifth place, five points behind Aston Villa in the top four. They have a game in hand, but they need to improve even more to catch up to the three dominant teams in the division and the other teams vying for a spot in Europe.
The 5’11” defender hasn’t exactly been sluggish, according to Sofascore; in 11 starts in the Premier League, he’s completed 92% of his passes, averaged 1.3 tackles and 2.1 clearances per game, and won 66% of his contested duels.

Davies was reliable and solid in Van de Ven’s absence in November and December, but he is not under contract until 2025, so the club’s higher-ups will have to think about selling him when the season ends.

Salary of Ben Davies in comparison to Spurs team
Van de Ven has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League since his £43 million August transfer from Wolfsburg, but now that he’s making more money than him, Postecoglou should probably send him packing and sign a young player who fits his vision.
Along with Romero, Van de Ven has been outstanding in the backline thanks to his remarkable agility, astute match acumen, and raw defensive incisiveness.
On the other hand, selling is the only way to strengthen Tottenham, and players like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are likely to be among the favorites to depart. With some sadness, Ben Davies is another stalwart who may have to hang up his Lilywhites hat.

The stats of Ben Davies’s season
Following his 2014 transfer from Swansea City, Davies has played in 329 games for Spurs. However, with Postecoglou at the helm, the 30-year-old is unlikely to reestablish himself as a regular starter, so he may want to seek greener pastures.

After spending most of the first half of the current season on the bench due to injuries to Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, the natural left back was pressed into a central defensive role just before Christmas, and he actually performed rather well.

To emphasize his unique set of skills, the Dutch international is among the top three percent of center backs in Europe’s top five leagues in terms of pass completion, two percent in terms of successful take-ons, and seventeen percent in terms of progressive carries per ninety minutes, according to FBref.

While Davies has been much better so far this season, he was instrumental in last season’s awful defensive performance and started 26 Premier League games for a team that let in 63 goals, more than any club in the league save the promoted and relegated teams. This performance drew criticism from commentators like Gabby Agbonlahor.

“I saw him play recently, and he was terrible with the ball,” Agbonlahor remarked. Though he’s been a long-term member of the club, he has yet to consistently deliver stellar performances. That defense needs a serious shakeup. I think they should add a left back and two center backs because Davies isn’t cutting it anymore.
It may be the right time for Davies to leave this summer, given his contract situation and large wage; he has been a solid squad option this season, but he isn’t indispensable to Tottenham’s defense.

After his spectacular performance against Crystal Palace, journalist Mitch Fretton dubbed Van de Ven a “elite baller” and said that the newcomer appears to be here to stay.
