Manchester United has long sought to acquire Frenkie de Jong.
The goal of the Dutch midfielder has been to stay at Barcelona on several occasions.
Casemiro’s future at Old Trafford is uncertain.

When questioned about a possible future transfer to Manchester United, Frankie de Jong insisted he is happy where he is at Barcelona, his “dream club”.

United has long admired De Jong, and their interest was piqued when former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag arrived at Old Trafford in 2022. During Ten Hag’s first summer, the midfielder was his top target; however, after a deal fell through, United turned to Casemiro.

Although there are still rumors linking De Jong to United due to the struggling midfield, the 26-year-old has taken steps to put an end to the rumors once more.

“I am at the club where I always wanted to be, where I dreamed of,” he stated to NOS.

“You want to win the big prizes as a football player, and I haven’t yet. I still haven’t achieved my desired level of success or become the player I want to be. Though I still have time and space for improvement, I would prefer to get there as soon as possible.”

Later, De Jong faced direct questions concerning his transfer to United, including whether making the move to a new league could give his career a boost.

“Perhaps,” he admitted. “However, I am quite happy in Barcelona. It is never easy to say. Right now, I’m comfortable here.”

Although De Jong is still under contract with Barcelona through 2026, United is keeping an eye on him as the Red Devils prepare to make yet another midfield change in the near future.

While 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo has given Ten Hag’s team some excitement, there may be a big exit in 2024 as 90min has learned that Casemiro, the player who was brought in to replace De Jong in 2022, is prepared to leave Old Trafford.

A sale may need to be approved quickly at Old Trafford if United are to avoid suffering a significant loss on their £60 million investment. Casemiro, a top target for the Saudi Pro League, has struggled to live up to expectations this season before also getting hurt.
