FINALLY: The thrilling Tottenham claim made by Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur's remarks regarding Matty Cash's tackle

On Sunday, Tottenham supporters saw the real Dejan Kulusevski in action against Aston Villa. The Swede, who gave one of his best performances while wearing a Spurs shirt during their 2-1 loss to the Midlands club, came to that conclusion.

Ange Postecoglou, 23, switched from his typical right-wing position to play at number ten in an attempt to cover for James Maddison’s injury. His cunning, direct running, and inventiveness gave Aston Villa a lot of problems. Unlucky not to open the score within the first three minutes after some excellent footwork saw his close-range shot cannon off the post, Kulusevski was the center of all Spurs’ attacking activity and produced some real quality to create opportunities for Brennan Johnson and Bryan Gil.

The attacker, who was such a key player when he first joined on loan from Juventus in January 2022 and raised the bar after putting on some incredible performances to help Tottenham win Champions League football, has since failed to consistently perform at those levels for the Lilywhites. Though he admitted after the game that he felt good physically and that he thought he was on the right track to consistently putting on performances like this, his performance against Aston Villa might just be the beginning.

Following the 2-1 defeat, he remarked, “I felt so good today, I felt like the real Dejan.” “Today I felt like myself, and the coach made the decision about my placement.” I had a great time and enjoyed playing today. I had an excellent day.”

“Absolutely,” he replied when asked if he could fill in for Maddison and assume the team’s creative role. It’s nothing new to me; I’ve done it my entire life. Naturally, I played right wing in the second half, but I was in good form. I’m happy because I feel great physically and I know I’m on the right track to get better and keep playing this way.”

Postecoglou’s team has now lost three games in a row, but they had plenty of opportunities to end the Aston Villa match. Kulusevski has called some of Tottenham’s football “unbelievable” after playing some thrilling football against Unai Emery’s high-flying squad, but the outcome has left him “very angry” and “very disappointed”.

“I’m merely irate. We are furious and disappointed because we can’t lose a game like that,” he said. “To be honest, we were really great. The first thirty minutes were amazing, with everyone doing so well. Everyone had amazing performances.

“You want to win when you play that way; you don’t want to lose. However, this is the method. We must go on. The main issue is that we have now lost three straight games.

“We need to play like that for 90 minutes in order to win games, especially in the first half of the game. They scored an offside goal, and we allowed them to stay in the game.

“I believe that we just need to mentally get better. That is all there is to it. We are amazing in football, and the coach is working wonders with us. All we need to do is keep moving forward, have faith in our abilities, and play this way.”
