FINALLY: Sir Jim Ratcliffe told he must sack ‘laughing stock’ Erik ten Hag if one thing happens at Man Utd
According to Mark Lawrenson, Manchester United has “become a laughing stock” under Erik ten Hag and should fire the manager if anything goes wrong at the team.
Last weekend, Man United suffered their ninth league defeat of the year, falling to Nottingham Forest under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Ten Hag’s team is now in eighth place in the table after their 2-1 loss at the City Ground, abandoning their miserable league campaign to start their FA Cup adventure.
The Red Devils, who haven’t won the competition since the 2015–16 campaign, take on Wigan Athletic in a third-round matchup on Monday, where Ten Hag hopes to win his second trophy since taking over.
Lawrenson thinks Sir Jim Ratcliffe should remove Ten Hag from his managerial position at Old Trafford if they lose to the League One team.
“After Manchester United’s lacklustre performance against Nottingham Forest, if they lost to Wigan, Erik ten Hag would have to say, ‘thank you but no thank you’, because that’s the worst result possible for them, no disrespect to Wigan,” he stated to Paddy Power.
“In OGC Nice, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has had five different managers. What does he do with Manchester United when there are so many other issues to deal with? The roof needs to be fixed, they will be selling players in the January transfer window, and the team requires a significant makeover.
“If Ten Hag loses at Wigan, he has to go – it’s become a laughing stock.”
Manchester United advanced to the FA Cup final the previous year, but Manchester City, their crosstown rivals, defeated them 2-1.
By taking home the illustrious trophy, Ten Hag hopes to improve even further on his performance from the previous season.
Man United hopes to win the FA Cup for the 13th time this year. They have won the competition 12 times in their history.
