Fabrizio Romano provides ‘100%’ confirmation on Manchester City transfer rumour
There doesn’t seem to be any chance for Manchester City supporters to see a new midfield player arrive at the Etihad Stadium this month, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
During the current transfer window, City officials are settling on the future of England international Kalvin Phillips, a defensive midfielder who is looking for better opportunities for the second half of the season.
Although Phillips’ desires are widely known, it is unclear how much Manchester City wants to replace the former Leeds United player, especially given the limited number of available options.
Joshua Kimmich of Bayern Munich is one name that has surfaced recently. Given the history between Pep Guardiola and the Germany international, many have been unsurprised to learn of possible interest from the Etihad Stadium.
Nevertheless, despite Kimmich’s uncertain contract in Germany, some Manchester City supporters’ excitement on social media this week was tempered by a new update regarding the likelihood of a Kimmich transfer this month.
According to Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing, Kimmich, a rumored transfer target for Manchester City, will “100% stay” at Bayern Munich for the duration of the current January transfer window.
Romano said on Monday, “There have been rumors about Manchester City as Joshua Kimmich approaches the last year of his Bayern Munich contract, but what I can say is he is 100% staying at Bayern in January.”
He went on, “We will see in the coming months as all clubs are currently preoccupied with January transfers rather than contract extensions. However, nothing will happen for Kimmich in January.
When Pep Guardiola needs stand-ins for regular defensive midfielder Rodrigo, he still has options this season. Manuel Akanji, Rico Lewis, Mateo Kovacic, and John Stones have all filled in at different points.
While fellow midfield talent Jacob Wright made his first-team debut on Sunday afternoon in the FA Cup against Huddersfield, Mahamadou Susoho is another name that has been included in first-team matchday squads in recent weeks after excelling at the Academy level.
