Mason Greenwood pockets £500k windfall as Man Utd 'set date' for return decision

Mason Greenwood has amassed a windfall of £500,000 after winding up his image rights firm.

Greenwood, who established TSM Sports in 2019, has decided to put the company on hold, according to the Sun.

Greenwood adamantly denied the allegations and they were later dropped after the forward’s arrest in January 2022 on suspicion of rape, controlling behaviour, and assault.

The athlete appointed liquidators for TSM Sports on March 3, and on February 9 he signed a declaration of solvency reporting that the company had £513,287 in the bank and was due a £120 VAT refund.

Greenwood owes £508,863 from the liquidation after paying £4,544 in bills, according to paperwork filed at Companies House.

United loaned the forward to La Liga club Getafe last summer, and he has since filed four sets of financial documents for the company. Andrew, Greenwood’s father, and Greenwood himself serve as company directors.

From its inception until March 2020, TSM Sports amassed £400,000 in earnings, and by 2022, the company had made an additional million. Last year, it brought in £530,000.

A player’s “nicknames, slogan and signatures, image, likeness, voice, logos, initials, team or squad number,” in addition to any merchandise bearing their name, can help a player’s club earn money.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United’s new minority owner and man in charge of the club’s football operations, briefly mentioned the possibility of Greenwood’s return in February.

We need to examine facts, judge fairly, and take into account what the club’s values are, Ratcliffe said in an interview with the Athletic.

After that, we’ll be able to make a call. I feel unqualified to offer any criticism of Mason Greenwood at this time.

The Sun went on to report that the petrochemicals magnate is aiming to make a decision regarding Greenwood’s United status by May’s end.

Resolving the matter should be a “priority” for Ratcliffe’s team of advisers from now until the season ends.
