Jamal Musiala, a star player for Bayern Munich, has turned down a new contract, adding fuel to the fire that he wants a move to the Premier League this summer. Among his admirers are Liverpool and Manchester City.

In his pursuit of a summer transfer to the Premier League, Jamal Musiala has turned down a new contract offer from Bayern Munich.

It was revealed last month that Manchester City and Liverpool are the front-runners to sign Musiala. The two English clubs recently sent scouts to watch the German international play for Bayer Leverkusen.

Musiala, a midfielder, was still under consideration for a new contract with Bayern that would have paid £150,000 per week. His subsequent announcement that he will not be signing it has fueled rumors that he will depart the club in July, as he informed the Bundesliga giants of his decision.

Last week, City learned of the decision and are now getting more and more confident that they will win the battle for the highly sought-after Musiala, who turned 21 last week.

Although Germany has been the most persistent suitor in Pep Guardiola’s pursuit of the playmaker—25 times—the Daily Star was the first to report that Liverpool aren’t the only English club posing a threat.

Chelsea, who had interest in the player when he was a youth product, are also likely to be involved when the transfer window opens at the end of the season.

The Blues’ chances of convincing Musiala to pick Stamford Bridge over the Etihad or Anfield are slim unless they win the FA Cup and qualify for the Europa League.

At least £80 million, not including his weekly salary of about £200,000, will be required to sign Musiala, who has two years remaining on his current Bayern deal.
