Really embarrassing’ – Arsenal slammed for ‘terrible treatment’ of Charlie Patino as shock £1m transfer agreement with Deportivo La Coruna sparks fan backlash

A report in the Mirror says that the Gunners have decided to sell Patino to Deportivo La Coruna for £1m ($1.3m/€1.2m). Formerly thought to be one of Arsenal’s best young players, the midfielder was called the “best player who has ever walked through the doors at Hale End” by the club’s head of scouting Shaun O’Connor. However, he hasn’t improved since making his first-team debut in 2020 and will soon be leaving the Emirates Stadium.

Patino’s contract has a sell-on clause, which means Arsenal could get more than just £1m in the end. However, it’s natural to wonder what’s happened with the 20-year-old’s development and why, after how highly rated he was in the club’s school, he’s being allowed to leave north London. Patino got experience playing with the first team during loan stints at Blackpool and Swansea City. However, he only started 14 league games for Swansea City last season, and only one of those starts came in the second part of the season.
1 million for Patino, that’s f*cking embarrassing,” @boulton_luka wrote on X. @Ashm__14 also wrote: “£1 million is a joke.” We’re really bad at this.”At the same time, @AhiweIkenna asked, “1m, is this a joke or something?”
“We make it really hard to sell players.” @julius_kamwathi wrote, “City, Liverpool, and Chelsea would have all gotten 15-20m for him.” @Gunners14title said, “Terrible deal and terrible treatment from the club to the player.”
In the second level of Spanish football, Real Oviedo beat Deportivo 1-0 in their first game of the season. If the move goes through, Patino could make his start on September 1 at home against Racing Ferrol.
