“Man united are cooking- A new player is coming”- Skysports journalist is ‘more than impressed’ with Erik Ten Hag and confirms Man united are going for another big signing- Talks on going with ‘a high profile player’ already
“Man United is preparing—a new player is on the way.”- Erik Ten Hag has “more than impressed” the Skysports writer, who also confirms that Manchester United is set to make another significant signing. “A high profile player” is already being discussed.
During the summer transfer window, Manchester United made four additions, and there may yet be movement before the August 30 deadline.
The club’s biggest priority is still finding a new defensive midfielder, although they are still being connected to offensive players like Federico Chiesa of Juventus.
According to Sport, United has made an offer for the Italy international, but given Barcelona’s interest, the forward might choose a transfer to the top division in Spain.
But according to today’s magazine (page 6), the former Fiorentina player is considering United’s offer because of the registration issues at Barcelona.
It is doubtful that Man Utd will sign Juventus’ Chiesa.
After suffering a significant knee injury, Chiesa had a difficult time playing for the Bianconeri. However, he had a strong 2023–24 season, finishing with 10 goals and three assists in 37 games.
In the previous season, the 26-year-old supported Dusan Vlahovic as the second striker, although he can also operate from the right and left wing positions.
Any elite European team would benefit from his versatility, therefore United might not seek his signing unless there is a high-profile departure before the deadline.
Alejandro Garnacho, Amad Diallo, Jadon Sancho, and Antony are the Red Devils’ contenders for the right wing position. Marcus Rashford can play on the left alongside Garnacho and Sancho.
With Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund up front, the club is also very busy. Bruno Fernandes has also been selected by manager Erik ten Hag as a false nine on few occasions.
Although Sancho is expected to go for the exit, no formal bids have been made as of yet.
We think Chiesa is not going to end up at Old Trafford. The victor of Euro 2020 will demand regular minutes, something United cannot guarantee.
Chiesa might not sign with Barcelona either, despite veteran Italian defender Alessandro Pierini calling him “world-class.”
It’s possible that the rumours are agent-driven in an attempt to draw attention from other elite European clubs this month.
Chiesa is in the final year of his Juventus deal and is available for just £13 million. The Bianconeri have decided to sell him after he turned down an extension.
