Officially, Arsenal has finally surprised Chelsea by acquiring their top transfer target. The player will undergo a medical examination in the coming hours, and an announcement will be made today on his attendance at the Aston Villa game.

The goal of Arsenal is to bring in a new central midfield player before the transfer market shuts the following week.

Mikel Merino of Real Sociedad is the club’s top priority, but as of right now, they haven’t been able to work out a good deal for his services with the La Liga team.

According to COPE today, the Gunners recently offered £30 million with add-ons, but their bid was rejected. Sociedad’s budget exceeds £34 million.

Mundo Deportivo also reports that Jokin Aperribay, president of Sociedad, has visited the English metropolis to complete Merino’s transfer to the Gunners.

His goal is to sell the Spain international to Arsenal for about £34 million. It would be acceptable to Sociedad to receive payments in installments.

Although Arsenal has not yet complied with the request, there remains hope that the Gunners can be persuaded to reach an agreement.

Arsenal and Merino could conclude their deal this week.
A real resolution to the Merino transfer story has been absent for the past month.

The “world-class” star’s desire to join the Gunners this summer is well known. Having declined Atletico Madrid, he has already reached a personal agreement on terms of a transfer.

With one year remaining on his contract, the Spaniard has a £56 million release clause in his agreement with the Basque team, thus Arsenal was likely looking for a good offer for him.

But given that Merino has been an unquestioned starter for the La Liga team for the previous six years, Sociedad is forcing them to pay a lot more.

Arsenal is hoping to reach a deal with Aperribay in London this week. This is necessary so that the team can focus on getting a forward before the deadline.

In the event that Eddie Nketiah departs, we think the team would go after an attacker.
