Breaking News: Eric Dier's exclusion from Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham team for their match against Man City

Tottenham’s squad for their Premier League match against Man City on Sunday does not include Eric Dier. Against the defending champions, Ange Postecoglou and his team will be looking to pull off a major upset in a game that is extremely important for the Lilywhites as they try to end three straight league losses.

Rodrigo Bentancur is out due to injury, so Yves Bissouma will start for Spurs in place of him after last weekend’s 2-1 loss to Aston Villa. Young players Yago Santiago and Richarlison were named as part of the matchday party, however Postecoglou has made a couple of bench changes.

Dier pulled up sore during training the day before the game, which is why football.london understands that he is missing. Because of this, Alfie Dorrington is the only center back listed on the substitutes’ bench. The England international is not available.

Postecoglou and Spurs are relieved that Richarlison, who underwent groin surgery recently, is back in the matchday squad. The Brazilian attacker is only capable of playing for five or ten minutes at most, according to football.london’s understanding.

Postecoglou revealed the reason Dier is not in the team to play Man City in an interview with Sky Sports prior to the match.

After training, Eric woke up sore and wasn’t there. Today, he is not available,” the 58-year-old stated. Despite the fact that it is not their natural position, I believe Emerson and Benny [Davies] have performed admirably for us. We need to try to stop them and mount a fierce group defense, so it’s more about the collective for us.”

“It’s good to have Biss back,” he continued, speaking of Yves Bissouma’s return to the team and Richarlison replacing him in the matchday squad. The sending off and the yellow have clearly caused him some disruption over the past few weeks. He rejoining the team is a good thing.

Since Richy is far from prepared, he had no choice. We just need him to get back involved, even though it might take five or ten minutes.”
