Marco Silva, the manager of Fulham, has acknowledged that he believes Malo Gusto ought to have been sent off for a forceful challenge on Willian during the Premier League matchup with Chelsea. With the opportunity to move up to eighth place on the line, the Blues went into the London derby at Stamford Bridge looking for their fourth straight league win.

After his team’s first-leg Carabao Cup loss to Middlesbrough, Mauricio Pochettino was looking for a reaction from his players, and three points was undoubtedly the response he was after. But his players’ performance was hardly convincing, and it could have been much worse had Gusto been told to march on during the first half.

The France international was well up the pitch just past the half-hour mark when he lost possession of the ball and made a desperate lunge to try to recover it. But Willian, a former Chelsea player, beat him to it when Gusto’s studs struck Willian’s shin, prompting Anthony Taylor to issue a yellow card.

Palmer scored the game’s lone goal just over ten minutes after a brief VAR check was completed, but no more penalties were given. After the game, Silva shared his thoughts on the incident, and it was evident in his eyes that Gusto ought to have been sent off.

“I believe (Malo) Gusto received a red card,” the Fulham manager stated to TNT Sport. At our level, it’s hard to comprehend why things are inconsistent. The Premier League is the Premier League, and out of ten such instances, nine have resulted in a red card; this afternoon’s was not one of them. It was an unsafe tackle, and the player who made the mistake gets a clear red card. After checking, the VAR denied it.

Peter Crouch and Joe Cole conversed about the challenge at the half, with the latter seeming hesitant to take a side. He said, “For me, I have seen them given,” on TNT Sport. “I have witnessed them present a red card in front of the screen. It can be viewed as reckless that he took the same action against Aston Villa earlier in the season. He could have done for that, but I’m glad he wasn’t sent off.”
