Gerard Pique announces shock return to football just over a year after hanging up his boots… as the former Barcelona and Man United defender teases big announcement for new role

Just 14 months after hanging up his boots, Gerard Pique is about to make an unexpected comeback to football.
The former defender for Manchester United and Barcelona announced his abrupt retirement in November 2022. He only played in one game before giving up on the game.
However, the 36-year-old has hinted at a possible comeback to football, saying he plans to play a different position.
“It’s a new year and after thinking carefully I have decided to return to football,” he wrote in a social media message.
“I really miss it.” It won’t be as a player this time. In the capacity of a coach. I will provide further information at the end of this week.
His admission will undoubtedly spark rumors that he wants to return to his old team, Barcelona, to take on a coaching position under his new partner, Xavi.
Pique returned to Barcelona in 2008 after playing for Manchester United, and he had 14 illustrious years there.
For the Catalan giants, he brought home 30 medals, including nine LaLiga crowns and three Champions League trophies.
Additionally, he and his nation won the European Championship (2012) and the World Cup (2010).
He founded the seven-a-side Kings League in Barcelona after retiring, and he may consider applying for a coaching position there as well.
Five months after splitting from singer Shakira, Pique announced his retirement from sports. He is currently dating Clara Chia Marti.
During his farewell speech to the Nou Camp supporters during his final match against Almeria, he promised to come back to Barcelona eventually.
