Zinedine Zidane has made his feelings clear on players he would sign to reshape the squad if he replaces Erik Ten Hag as Man United manager
Raphael Varane is expected to take Erik ten Hag’s place at Manchester United, as Zinedine Zidane has previously stated.
Ten Hag is facing increasing criticism as a result of United’s recent poor performance, which included a 4-3 Champions League loss to FC Copenhagen on Wednesday.
While some have criticized the Dutchman’s team choices and composition in recent weeks, others agree that there are more pressing problems at Old Trafford right now.
In any case, if United decides to part ways with Ten Hag, Zidane is the clear favorite to take his place.
Although he hasn’t held a position since departing the team for the second time in 2021, the renowned Real Madrid and France manager has managed the team twice at the Bernabeu.
After transferring to Real from Lens in France in 2011, Varane was one of his most important players during both stints.
United had also shown a lot of interest in him, but he disclosed that the club’s choice to sign Phil Jones in place of him was a major factor in his decision to reject them and join Real Madrid.
After the deal was finalized, Zidane spoke with RMC and said he was directly involved in it:
What mattered most was that he met Jose Mourinho. This is the most important because he will be the coach leading the team.
“They joined forces. That’s essentially it, too. Varane is quick, smart, and a major player, much like [Laurent] Blanc, from what I’ve seen of him.
Varane was once again a target for United when Mourinho took over at Old Trafford, but the Frenchman chose to stay at the Bernabeu, citing Zidane’s presence as a key factor.
With the legendary midfielder now a member of United, Varane will undoubtedly be a key player for him.
