‘We know his wishes’ – Arsenal handed boost in bid to land Mikel Merino as Real Sociedad offer fresh update on potential £30m transfer
Arsenal’s pursuit of Mikel Merino has received a significant advantage, as Real Sociedad has officially stated their willingness to allow his departure, provided the appropriate financial compensation is offered.
Arsenal is actively seeking to secure a deal for Merino.
Mikel Arteta is enthusiastic about acquiring a new midfielder, while Merino has been excluded from the Sociedad team.
What occurred?
Arsenal have been actively seeking to acquire Merino during the summer and are currently engaged in advanced negotiations with Real Sociedad in their efforts to get a new midfielder. La Real president Jokin Aperribay has officially stated that the Spanish club is willing to allow Merino to leave, as long as the offer matches their specified requirements.
The broader perspective
According to reports, Merino’s price is estimated to be approximately £30m ($39m), and it is already stated that he has accepted to the Gunners’ personal terms. Currently, both teams must reach a mutual understanding in order for the Spanish player, who was a member of the victorious Spanish national team in the Euro 2024 tournament, to transfer to the north London club.
Statement by Aperribay
Aperribay stated, according to Fabrizio Romano, that we will engage in discussions with Arsenal and advocate for the interests of Real Sociedad. Upon evaluating the favourable nature of the offer, we will express our agreement. “We possess knowledge regarding Merino’s desires, hence we have made the decision to refrain from summoning him for Real Sociedad’s La Liga opener.”
What is the next step?
Based on Aperribay’s remarks, it seems likely that the agreement for Merino’s departure is nearing completion. Arsenal will aim to obtain his signing prior to their match against Aston Villa on Saturday.
