This is what manchester united Director wants facts to expect during the January transfer window
The Man Utd director teases fans with what to expect during the January transfer window.
Man Utd is under pressure to get better in January following a challenging season debut.
The minority takeover led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe has not yet been finalized.
The demands of FFP regulations are acknowledged by Director John Murtough.
John Murtough, the football director for Manchester United, has cautioned supporters not to have high expectations for the January transfer window.
After a challenging start to the season that saw them finish bottom of their Champions League group, record a negative goal difference after 17 Premier League games, and struggle offensively, United are under pressure to improve in the winter window. Only five teams in England’s top flight have managed fewer goals than their return of 18, and all five are currently in the bottom six.
However, Murtough stated in a Fans’ Forum that the emphasis will be on finding moves for fringe players, so fans hoping for big moves this winter may be let down.
“Looking ahead to the January transfer window, we are not expecting it to be particularly busy,” he stated. Deals around the periphery of the team are always possible, especially when it comes to finding opportunities for players who aren’t getting the playing time they want.
“However, we’ve always been consistent in saying that we do not see January as the optimal time to do business and our recruitment strategy remains focused on summer windows.”
Midfielder Donny van de Beek, who is expected to join Eintracht Frankfurt on loan after seeing just 21 minutes of action in the first half of the season, is one of those leaving in January.
Murtough has pledged to improve United’s balance between inflows and outflows in upcoming windows, but he is also cautious about the effects of Financial Fair Play rules.
“We’ve seen this season that Financial Fair Play rules have real teeth, so we have to be very careful to ensure that we remain compliant, and we will,” he said.
“But that means being really disciplined on spending going forward, with a balance between incomings and outgoings.”
