According to Gary Neville, he made an effort to persuade Steven Gerrard to sign with Manchester United.

Before joining the LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer in 2015, Gerrard was a member of Liverpool for the bulk of his career.

The midfield player has been linked to teams other than Anfield over the years, with Chelsea and Real Madrid reportedly interested in signing Gerrard.

Neville, a former player for United, disclosed in an interview with Stick to Football that he attempted to persuade Gerrard to sign with the Red Devils.

In his book, “Stevie [Steven Gerrard] described how I went into his room with England and asked him to sign with Manchester United,” the speaker stated. Tell him I’ll go get him and I’ll walk him back down the East Lancs, Sir Alex Ferguson said over the phone when I was meeting up with England for the Euros. He called me to say it’s ambitious.

When I saw Stevie, he rejected it quite quickly and quite categorically. He declared that neither he nor his family would be able to leave Liverpool.

Gerrard wrote on Instagram on Wednesday following the podcast’s release, stating, “It was a polite F**k Off.”

Gerrard previously stated, “It would mean an awful lot more to be successful at Liverpool than it would at any other club,” when discussing what it meant to play for Liverpool.

“Let me be clear, I may have won more medals in the past, but winning the league here and a few more cups would mean a lot more than taking home seven or eight trophies in the past.”

“I can share it with my family and the Liverpool supporters because I’ve been one of them my entire life,” he went on.

Gerrard made 710 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions and scored 185 goals in that time.

The midfield player won three League Cups, two FA Cups, one each of the FA Community Shield, Champions League, UEFA Cup, and UEFA Super Cup while he was a player at Anfield.

Following his retirement from the game, Gerrard managed Rangers and Aston Villa. Al Ettifaq, a team in the Saudi Professional League, is currently managed by the 43-year-old.
