Accidents

Alcantara Thiago

Due to a hip ailment that required surgery, Thiago was unable to play in the final weeks of the 2022–2023 season and is still sidelined.

On December 29, Jürgen Klopp said, “I believe Thiago will participate in team training at some point [in January].” Thiago is also in a very good place right now, but we need to be careful not to use him too soon. The hip issue in and around that region is also merely a long-term issue. He could have easily trained on certain days, but the main thing we are focusing on is how he can be back then in the long run.

Bajcetic Stefan

On December 29, Klopp said of Stefan: “He says he feels good when you ask him how he feels.” Could you practice? He could, indeed. It’s just we have to be sensible. That’s the reality. It’s a developing problem—not a growing [increasing] problem—because of his aging, growing, and other factors. So we just have to be careful. He could train all out today, possibly tomorrow, and then not [for] five weeks after that. It’s not the boy’s or my decision; it’s a medical one. That is the only thing you can do in the event that something similar occurs. And the boy finds it really annoying because of that.

Ben Doak

The youthful striker will miss some time due to a knee injury he sustained while playing for the Reds U21s.

On December 19, Pepijn Lijnders said, “That’s not a good one.” He tore his meniscus on the side, requiring surgery. That one is going to take more time. He is young, physically fit, and optimistic, so it is likely that he will return stronger. However, we need him to return with the same intensity and passion that he did when he was playing the ball. We’ll wait for him even if he takes some time.

Joel Matip

In the second half of Liverpool’s victory over Fulham on December 3, the center-back was involved in a challenge that resulted in an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Matip subsequently had a successful operation, and there is no set timeframe for his recovery; he will continue his rehabilitation at the AXA Training Center.

Andy Roberts

Surgery was performed on the left-back’s injured shoulder during an October Scotland match.

On December 29, Klopp said, “Robbo still needs to have more shoulder range.” It was undoubtedly a major surgery. Even now, [he is] nowhere near team training or anything like that. can perform a wide range of tasks without using their arm correctly, which is clearly beneficial but also indicates that there is still a long way to go. I believe that throughout the entire month of January, he must get closer and closer.

Dominik Szoboszlai

On New Year’s Day, the No. 8 was substituted out of the game midway through the second half against Newcastle United.

On January 1, Klopp said, “We felt that he should be taken off; that was the plan, but he felt his hamstring in the last situation, so it was somehow a minute late.” Obviously, we don’t know how big it is yet, so we’ll have to wait.

Tsimikas Kostas

Tsimikas is out of the lineup for Liverpool’s league match against Arsenal at Anfield due to a broken collarbone.

Klopp on December 23: “He broke his collarbone at least. That is very detrimental to us.
