Sir Jim Ratcliffe investment at Manchester United to be ‘completed by Christmas’
Reports from The Times suggest Man Utd are ‘working around the clock’ to get the remaining paperwork done.

Investment from Sir Jim Ratcliffe could be formalised in time for Christmas – according to reports.

Manchester United are gearing up for change at boardroom level and the INEOS founder is expected to complete his minority takeover imminently. The 71-year-old will, initially, work alongside the Glazer family at Old Trafford after provisionally striking a deal worth £1.25billion for a 25 per cent share at the club.

Reports from The Times suggest INEOS and United are hoping to rubber-stamp the agreement by Christmas amid reports of round the clock working to tie up the remaining paperwork. There was some speculation this might have been completed on Friday morning but there has been no official comment.

The much-maligned Glazer family announced a strategic review of their ownership in November 2022 as Ratcliffe went head-to-head with Sheikh Jassim in the bidding process. However, the Qatari banker then withdrew interest as INEOS founder Ratcliffe revised his plan and set sights on a 25 per cent share.

It has been more than a month since The Manchester Evening News reported that Ratcliffe and the INEOS Group were close to completing their purchase. Several delays have followed in the last few weeks, but none were viewed as any threat to the investment as United prepare to head in a new direction.

As and when the Ratcliffe announcement comes, the investment must be ratified by the Premier League and that process could take as long as eight weeks. That means it remains highly unlikely the deal will have any drastic impact on the winter transfer budget for Erik ten Hag with market set to reopen next month.
