See the huge salary Jürgen Klopp recieved and why it is an Obstacle for him to coach the German national team
At every high point and low point of the German national team, Jurgen Klopp’s salary is a major obstacle that keeps coming up.
When names for a new German manager surface, the Liverpool manager is always thrown into the mix, and he and his agent keep pulling away.
Even with Klopp under contract at Anfield, the rumour mill never stops, and vice-president of the German FA Ralph-Uwe Schaffert has now clarified why a move would be too costly.
The crux of the matter is Klopp’s salary, which he has the option to reduce, though doing so would necessitate a large pay cut from his current earnings, as Schaffert has now disclosed.
In a recent interview, Schaffert stated, as cited by Focus, “The DFB can’t pay Jurgen Klopp at all. He earns a fixed 24 million a year, plus 26 million guaranteed advertising income – so 50 million euros.”
Schaffert claims that the combined salary of €50 million (£43.3 million) would include a few affiliations with brands like Peloton and Adidas. It is understandable that the German national team would object to such a sum.
Not that Klopp would ever depart for Germany before his contract at Liverpool expired, though we are very pleased about that!
“The DFB can no longer afford it, so the next national coach won’t get what Hansi Flick got,” Schaffert added.
Few Bundesliga coaches make less than a million dollars a year. Everything has gotten so out of control that it is nearly hard to control it.
The current German manager, Julian Nagelsmann, was hired in September, and Schaffert claims that his pay “has already become less.”
It’s likely that we will hear about more connections between Klopp and Germany in the future, but we should temper our expectations because, let’s face it, we all hope it’s for longer than his 2026 contract at Anfield!
