Rio Ferdinand says one Man Utd player 'shouldn't be at the club' after Man City defeat

In light of United’s loss to Manchester City, Rio Ferdinand has stated that one player “shouldn’t be at the club”.

In Sunday’s 192nd Manchester derby, United fell to City 3-1.

Marcus Rashford’s incredible early effort put United in the lead, but a brace from Phil Foden and a late goal from Erling Haaland ended Erik ten Hag’s team’s winning streak in the league.

Despite United’s poor performance and lengthy stints confined to their own penalty area, many City supporters predicted a much larger victory margin than 3-1.

Injuries prevented Ten Hag from bringing on a number of important players, notably central defenders Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez.

Returning to the club last summer, veteran defender Jonny Evans made his way into the starting lineup for his 17th Premier League appearance of the season.

Although he departed Old Trafford in 2015, the 36-year-old was re-signed to offer defensive depth and experience.

His former teammate Rio Ferdinand was among those who didn’t anticipate him playing so much this term.

Even though the United legend doesn’t believe Evans belongs on the team, he has been impressed by him.

While speaking on his FIVE podcast, Ferdinand stated, “I didn’t expect him to come in and play as many games, and I didn’t expect him to do as well as he’s done.”.

It is unbelievable, but he hasn’t stepped on anything. He’s comfortable with the ball and likely gets along well with younger teammates. Later on, he will likely pursue a career in coaching.

It wouldn’t shock me if he received a new contract, if not with them, then somewhere else; he probably wasn’t expecting to play that many games, but listen, his current performance is unbelievable.

I respect him as a professional, but I just don’t think he belongs at Manchester United, no matter how good he is.

“It merely reveals their location. No one has the right to expect him to come in and play with [Erling] Haaland. Those aren’t the tactics used by the best clubs these days.
