Eddie Nketiah, an Arsenal player, has ‘no future’ at the club under Mikel Arteta and ought to leave, according to reports.

In Sunday’s 2-0 FA Cup loss to Liverpool, Nketiah came off the bench for the last eight minutes of Arsenal’s game. Kai Havertz was favored to start up front in Gabriel Jesus’ absence.

BBC pundit Alan Shearer questioned Arteta’s decision to substitute the England international so late, given that the Spaniard did not make the change until after Liverpool had scored their second goal.

This season, the 24-year-old has five goals in the Premier League, including a hat-trick against Sheffield United.

But since then, he hasn’t made many appearances, and Crystal Palace is one of the teams that has been connected to the striker.

Nketiah also needs to leave the team this month, according to Premier League winner and former Blackburn striker Chris Sutton.

“If I’m Eddie Nketiah, I’m wondering how I’m benched and [thinking], ‘I don’t have a future at Arsenal if I’m not starting as a central striker,'” Sutton said in an interview with the It’s All Kicking Off Podcast.

“I understand that [Arteta] is desperate. However, if Havertz is ranked nine, what message does that convey to Nketiah? What is Nketiah thinking?

I’m thinking, ‘I can’t stay at Arsenal any longer,’ if I were Nketiah. Come on, a guy with shackles on has no future at Arsenal if you play him.”

It is said that the Gunners have set an asking price of £30 million, a move that seems motivated in part by their need to offload players to make room for reinforcements.

“We’re open for the transfer market, but the emphasis is on making the most of the players we have,” Arteta said when asked about his transfer plans as soon as the window opened.

“We’ll collaborate with the club to determine whether there are any opportunities and what our best options are. However, we will prioritize our current players first.”
