Mason Greenwood U-turn on Jim Ratcliffe’s offer to return to Man Utd due to his parents
Following what seemed like an indication from Sir Jim Ratcliffe that the on-loan Getafe striker could be reintegrated at Old Trafford, Mason Greenwood may contemplate a return to Manchester United for familial reasons.
If Mason Greenwood wants to put an end to his parents’ rumoured marital troubles, he could think about going back to Manchester United.
After Real Madrid decided he wasn’t going anywhere at Old Trafford, the 22-year-old striker went on loan to Getafe in September. The Crown Prosecution Service later dropped charges against Greenwood that had been pending, including attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault resulting in actual bodily harm.
Even though it was widely expected that Greenwood would be permanently moved on, remarks made by United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe seemed to suggest that he could still be reintegrated. The new club hierarchy will review the decision to part ways with Greenwood at the end of the season, according to the Ineos chief. After that, a final decision will be made.
Reports surfaced earlier this week claiming that Greenwood is “reluctant” to return to United and would rather not play for the club again. New information from The Sun, however, suggests that Greenwood’s parents may influence him to reconsider.
His alleged relocation to Spain with his father and agent, Andrew, has allegedly “strained” his relationship with Greenwood’s parents. The mother of his children, Melanie, is still in England.
Despite his happiness in Spain, Greenwood reportedly knows that he may have to go back to the Premier League because of the effects of the forced separation on his parents.
Mason has been enjoying himself in Spain and is aware that several elite clubs, including Barcelona, are interested in signing him, according to a source who spoke with the publication. He has always been hesitant to return because he was irritated by United’s handling of the situation after his charges.
Since Mason relocated to Spain, his parents have been apart for extended periods of time. As is common knowledge, maintaining a relationship over great distances is no easy feat, particularly considering the strains they’ve been through since Mason’s initial arrest in January 2022.
For the Greenwoods, those past two years have been hellish. He believes returning to United would resolve many of their issues. One possible reason for a return to his hometown is his strong relationship with his parents.
As Ratcliffe stated last month: “It’s quite clear we have to make a decision.” This meant that Greenwood’s future would be evaluated. No choice has been settled. Obviously, he isn’t the only one who is on loan. We will deal with the one or two footballers who require our attention and make a decision.
“The plan is to get to the bottom of the facts, not the hype, and then make an honest judgment based on our values—essentially, ask yourself, ‘Is he a good guy?'”
“Could he bring his A-game to Manchester United? How comfortable would we be, and how comfortable would the fans be?”
