According to Alan Shearer, Manchester United’s problems are getting worse because of an obvious dressing room problem right now. The legend of Newcastle also believes that Erik ten Hag won’t be around for very long after Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s partial takeover is official.

On Saturday, United was humiliated at Newcastle. The match’s 1-0 scoreline did not fairly represent the outcome, which put an end to the Red Devils’ three-game Premier League winning streak.

Ten Hag’s team needs to defeat Bayern Munich the following week in order to have any chance of moving on from their group-stage Champions League exit. They have lost six of their first 14 league games and have not triumphed over a team that is presently ranked in the top 10.

The confirmation of Ratcliffe’s investment in United is scheduled for next week. Shearer says that after Ten Hag’s arrival is confirmed, there’s a good chance he’ll be fired in a few weeks.

A glaring issue in the changing room has him convinced that the Dutchman’s time is running out. “Normally when new ownership comes in, that means a new manager,” Shearer stated on The Rest is Football Podcast. When that occurs after one, two, or four weeks, it typically indicates a change has occurred.

“They have continued to fire managers, and now look where they are! It is unclear if they will act in that manner once more.

It’s evident that there is a problem in that dressing room—you don’t need to be a genius to figure it out. You can see when players try to respond to their own fans by raising their arms and saying, “This is not my fault.”

“And you can tell there’s a problem in the changing room as soon as that occurs. And on Saturday, that occurred far too frequently.”

Shearer believes that United’s issues cannot be solved quickly. He claims that a few of their most recent large-scale purchases highlight their precarious position.

“I don’t see [major improvement] happening anytime soon,” he continued. This is a long-term position that has been here for a while.

“It’s been a while since they were where they wanted to be. And finally, something that has been there for a while happens—it falls onto the pitch.
