Jürgen Klopp wants Liverpool to continue to improve on the positive strides they made in the first half of this season by 2024.

With the goal of maintaining their current top spot, the Reds will host Newcastle United at Anfield this evening to kick off the new year.

“Having ended the last year pretty well, we would, of course, now like to start the new one in a similar way,” the manager writes in his column in tonight’s matchday programme.

“We must maintain the hard work we have done in the first half of the season and build on it in the second. This is not the time for us to look for a fresh start.

“There are so many benefits that it would be impossible to mention them all, but the main one is unquestionably that we still have a long way to go in terms of improvement. Here is where we need to concentrate: on doing everything within our power to move forward on our journey. After that, we’ll see where this leads.

“To be completely honest, I am ecstatic about our most recent away game against Burnley. We could and should have finished the game better, as I stated right after the game, and I haven’t changed my mind.

“But all in all, it was remarkable that we were able to perform as well as we did in our fourth game in ten days of intense play. For this, the players should be commended greatly.

“In this league, there are only ever significant challenges. Burnley may not be happy with their league standing, but their football is at a far higher level. It was evident to all that we deserved to win the game, even though we could have certainly made our lives easier by taking more chances.

“We must remember that you have to create opportunities in order to miss them, and lately, I’ve been really happy with this aspect of our game.
