JUST IN: After being instructed by the Chelsea manager to find a new club before the summer ends, a Chelsea player who turned down an offer to play for Arsenal two summers ago is now pleading for another chance to play for Arteta.

After holding talks to sign a Premier League winner, Arsenal, who just defeated Aston Villa toughly to make it two wins from two, may decide to immediately return to the transfer market.

News about Arsenal transfers
Instead of bringing in a large number of new players this summer, Arsenal has concentrated on strengthening their current roster with Riccardo Calafiori already settling in and Mikel Merino on the way. Even though Mikel Arteta’s midfielder scored his team’s second goal at Villa Park this past weekend, Merino is expected to start in Thomas Partey’s place.

When Leandro Trossard entered the game against Aston Villa, Arsenal suddenly sprang to life. The former Brighton & Hove Albion winger made the difference that Gabriel Martinelli did not in the first hour of play when he came off the bench in the 65th and opened the score in the 67th.

Although the left wing position is still up for grabs, the Gunners may finally be able to address such concerns through the transfer window and experience. Graeme Bailey of HITC reports that following Raheem Sterling’s camp’s contact with the North London giants, along with Aston Villa and West Ham United, Arsenal had held talks to recruit the player.

Arsenal may possibly finish their summer on a high note, giving the Gunners the opportunity to reunite Sterling and Arteta for the first time since their successful time together at Manchester City.

Arteta recently discussed his past work with Sterling amid the rumours, saying via Sky Sports: “My time with Raheem was exceptional.” Together, we built a very solid relationship. That was when he was truly amazing.

He also gave me a lot of insight into people, how players think, and how we can support and assist them. I feel a great deal of emotion towards him.

“Unbelievable” Sterling might raise further queries for Martinelli
Martinelli may be getting to the stage where there are legitimate doubts about whether he should start as Arteta’s left-winger going forward, particularly in light of Trossard’s persistent push for the Brazilian from the bench. And those doubts would only be increased by the addition of an experienced option in Sterling.

Sterling was a major contributor to Manchester City’s success throughout the years, although he was later benched at Chelsea. Arsenal might yet make a strong move, despite his rumoured £325,000 weekly wage.

In a struggling Chelsea team, he produced more than Martinelli did in an Arsenal team that was winning everything last season. The England international has demonstrated to the Premier League what he can accomplish with quality surrounding him, and the outcome is often hardware. The last five days of the window present an opportunity for Arsenal to capitalise on his current circumstances at Stamford Bridge.
