Chelsea have officially announced the acquisition of Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid in a permanent transfer deal.
Felix has returned to Chelsea for a second period of time.
Portugal star returns to Atletico on a permanent deal and expresses happiness at being back.
Felix has rejoined Chelsea for a second tenure with the Blues following a loan spell with the Premier League team in the 2022-23 season. The Portuguese player has signed a contract for six years, with the possibility of extending for one more year, and a transfer fee estimated to be around £45.5 million (€53m/$59m). Felix expressed contentment with being in his familiar environment and affirmed that his most productive years are still to come.
According to the club’s official website, he stated, “This opportunity allows me to establish a permanent residence.” Following my experiences with Chelsea and Barca, I felt the urge to establish a permanent residence. Chelsea is the ideal location for me. I perceive an ideal location to radiate brilliance. Several factors contributed to my desire to return: the project, the club, the league, the fans, and the enjoyable time I previously spent here. Despite the outcomes we achieved, I experienced a profound sense of satisfaction during my time here. I am delighted to be back.I have had significant growth as a player in various aspects, including my understanding of the game and my ability to identify favorable areas where I may exert a greater influence on the game by receiving the ball. I attempt to comprehend it by observing video recordings of my gameplay. I have undergone a transformation since my previous visit. I am currently 24 years old. I will turn 25 in November. I believe that I have undergone significant personal growth and development as a player. That is a common occurrence as one gets older. I am better equipped for the Premier League. I believe that the most fulfilling and successful period of my life is yet to come. I am quite certain of that. The most optimal years are yet to come. This year has promised since I am now permanently situated at home, allowing me to fully relish the comforts of my own abode.
Felix joins Chelsea as their 10th acquisition during a busy summer, aiming to make a significant contribution following a challenging period. The Portuguese player did not meet the high expectations associated with his expensive transfer fee when he joined Atletico in a record-breaking deal. As a result, he was loaned out to Chelsea and Barcelona. Felix was unable to secure a consistent position in the starting lineup for the Catalan giants last season. However, he will now strive to make a significant contribution at Stamford Bridge, despite facing fierce competition for a slot in the starting lineup.
Felix was dismissed during his inaugural match with Chelsea against Fulham in his initial tenure with the club but subsequently managed to net four goals in 20 appearances.
