Jamie Carragher doubles down on Liverpool league title prediction as Gary Neville agrees
Liverpool’s boring 0-0 draw with bitter rivals The Premier League title challenge by Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday has come to an end. Jurgen Klopp’s team will now play Arsenal.
The legendary player for Liverpool, Jamie Carragher, has reiterated his doubt that his former team can win the Premier League this year.
A largely disgruntled Anfield witnessed a dull 0-0 draw between archrivals Manchester United and former Reds defender Carragher on Sunday. This dull match ended the team’s unbeaten home record for the season and was the first time Jurgen Klopp’s team had failed to score in a game since April.
Following the game, a disgruntled Carragher remained steadfast in his belief that Klopp and company are worthy of winning the English championship for the first time since 2020. Liverpool seems to be playing a season ahead of schedule and where they ought to be, in my opinion. How excellent is this Liverpool squad? Carragher made a Sky Sports question.
“I believe the sentiment was that they wanted to return to the Champions League this year and then climb back up there, but I believe you can talk to Arsenal fans and they will question about their own team. There seem to be concerns surrounding the top two at the moment because of their goalkeeping situation over there.
“Not this year, I don’t think Liverpool will win the league. They definitely had bad luck with the Tottenham match, but they’ve also profited from some fortunate outcomes thus far, in my opinion. I doubt they can carry on like that.”
After Liverpool’s goalless draw with United, Gary Neville joined Carragher in the Sky studio. He concurred with Carragher’s assessment and also predicted Arsenal to challenge Manchester City, the current champions. “I don’t think Liverpool can win the league,” legendary United player Neville said.
“I started the season with Arsenal, and the only reason for that was my perception that City was faltering a bit following their amazing treble-winning campaign the previous year. How many times in the league does Pep Guardiola only win one out of every six games?
“It’s not a sign of complacency, but sometimes, I believe, the first few games of the season don’t feel as significant as you would like them to. They’ll be ready to go when the Champions League knockout stage arrives in February.
“I think it’ll come down to injuries in the end – if Arsenal can keep their players fit, they’ve got an incredible chance to win it this year but you can’t rule City out, obviously.”
