Despite the Reds’ desire to cash in on the defender, former Liverpool defender Daniel Agger acknowledges that he turned down a mega-money move to Manchester City during his playing days at Anfield.

Agger, now 39, moved to Anfield from Danish Superliga team Brondby in 2006. Under managers Rafa Benitez, Roy Hodgson, Kenny Dalglish, and eventually Brendan Rodgers, he had a fantastic eight years on Merseyside.was a member of Benitez’s Liverpool team in 2009, which came just short of winning the Premier League for the first time in 19 years. Despite several draws during the season, Manchester United ended up winning the title by four points.

But by 2012, Man City and Barcelona were fighting over Agger’s transfer, with both teams looking to take advantage of the defender’s contract that was about to expire. But Agger acknowledges he had no interest in moving from Merseyside to Manchester after UAE-backed City crushed Spanish powerhouses Barca’s offer.
