Charlie Patino, an Arsenal midfielder, revealed his resignation from the Emirates on social media and sent an emotional letter.
When the then-18-year-old scored on his debut in a 5-1 League Cup victory over Sunderland in 2021, Patino became an overnight phenomenon.

He was once referred to as the “best player who has ever walked through the doors at Hale End” by Arsenal’s head of scouting Shaun O’Connor, who predicted that he would develop into a top-tier prospect for Mikel Arteta for many more seasons.

The midfielder, meanwhile, only managed to play twice for the Gunners because he spent the previous two seasons on loan at Swansea and Blackpool.

In a £1 million move, the 20-year-old will now play for Spanish second-tier team Deportivo La Coruna; however, Arsenal has a sizeable sell-on clause in the deal.

In an Instagram post announcing his move to Spain, the academy graduate started: Greetings, Arsenal supporters.

First of all, I would like to express my gratitude for all of the incredible experiences I have had at this illustrious institution. Serving as an Arsenal player both on and off the pitch has been a privilege.

I dreamed of playing for Arsenal and joined the club when I was eleven years old. I will always be appreciative that I had the good fortune to realise my ambition.

‘Thank you to everyone of the club’s supporters, teammates, coaches, and associates. I wish you luck in the future!

After Emile-Smith Rowe completed his £34 million transfer to Fulham, Patino became the second graduate from Hale End to leave Arsenal this transfer window.

And as Eddie Nketiah nears an agreement to join Crystal Palace, there might be a third in the days to come.

The striker and Nottingham Forest were on the verge of a deal, but it fell through over the weekend as the 25-year-old’s conditions could not be agreed upon by the team.
