Most recent update: December 29

Thiago Alcantara’s injuries

Due to a hip ailment that required surgery, Thiago was unable to play in the final weeks of the 2022–2023 season and is still sidelined.

On December 29, Jürgen Klopp said, “I believe Thiago will participate in team training at some point [in January].” Thiago is also in a very good place right now, but we need to be careful not to use him too soon. The hip issue in and around that region is also merely a long-term issue. There were undoubtedly days on which he could have trained with ease, but our focus is on how he can be back then in the long run.

Bajcetic Stefan

On December 29, Klopp said, “If you ask Stefan how he feels, he says that he is good.” Could you practice? He could, indeed. We simply need to exercise common sense. That’s the reality. It’s a growing problem, not because it’s getting bigger [increasing], but rather because of his aging, growing, and other factors. We simply need to exercise caution. He could train all out today, possibly tomorrow, and then not [for] five weeks after that. It’s not the boy’s or my decision; it’s a medical one. That is the only thing you can do in the event that something similar occurs. And that’s why the boy finds it so annoying.”

Ben Doak

The youthful striker will miss some time due to a knee injury he sustained while playing for the Reds’ U21 team.

On December 19, Pepijn Lijnders said, “That’s not a good one.” He tore his meniscus on the side, requiring surgery. That one is going to take more time. He is young, physically fit, and optimistic, so it is likely that he will return stronger. However, we need him to return with the same intensity and passion that he did when he was playing the ball. We’ll wait for him even if he needs some time.”

Mac Allister Alexis

The Argentinian’s recuperation from the injury he suffered during the Reds’ road victory at Sheffield United is getting closer.

On December 29, Klopp said, “Today, we’ll see if Macca can join the team for training or not. The Doc is not here yet, the decision is not finalized, and it’s early; he may be here, but I haven’t seen him yet. Thus, we’ll see.”

Joel Matip

The center-back suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury on December 3 during a challenge during Liverpool’s victory over Fulham in the second half.

Matip subsequently had a successful operation, and there is no set timeframe for his recovery; he will continue his rehabilitation at the AXA Training Center.

Andy Roberts

Surgery was performed on the left-back’s injured shoulder during an October Scotland match.

On December 29, Klopp said, “Robbo’s shoulder still needs more range. It was undoubtedly a major surgery. Even now, [he is] nowhere near team training or anything like that. can perform a wide range of tasks without using their arm correctly, which is clearly beneficial but also indicates that there is still a long way to go. I believe that he must get closer and closer throughout the entire month of January.”

Tsimikas Kostas

Tsimikas is out of the lineup for Liverpool’s league match against Arsenal at Anfield due to a broken collarbone.

December 23, Klopp said, “He fractured his collarbone.”
