Gary Neville slams three Man Utd signings and accuses the Glazers of playing Football Manager

Gary Neville attacked three transfers made by Manchester United, saying they were instances of the team using Football Manager.

The former captain of United has consistently held the Glazers accountable for the club’s mismanagement and the recent shortcomings at Old Trafford.

However, the Red Devils seem to be getting a real structure once more after INEOS billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquired a 25% stake.

With Omar Berrada joining from rival Manchester City as CEO, United is already taking steps off the field to return to its heyday.

The 13-time Premier League champions are also hoping to make a move for Dan Ashworth, the sporting director of Newcastle United, who may fetch a price tag of £20 million.

Neville believes that after a period in which he felt the club essentially played Football Manager when it came to signings, United will finally get it right.

He mentioned three well-known players—Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic—who highlighted the issues the team was having with recruitment.

“When you consider that none of the Manchester United managers have had a head of recruitment, a sporting director, or a CEO who has actually managed a football team for the past ten years. It’s simply insanity; forget about carelessness. After United’s victory over Luton on Sunday, Neville told Sky Sports that “it would never happen at any other club.”

“Upon closer examination, it appears that the Glazers have exhibited unwavering allegiance to individuals who have provided them with exceptional support for an extended duration within the club. Ed Woodward worked on the club’s commercial side for ten or twelve years prior to being appointed CEO. They have been incredibly devoted to him and took his words at face value. Ed undoubtedly had faith in his work as well.

“I said it probably 10 years ago, it was like they were playing Football Manager.”They are welcome to go watch some of the world’s top players. For ten years, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, [Radamel] Falcao, and [Angel] Di Maria played football manager with the team without having any real executives, unlike other teams. It’s astounding.”

This week, INEOS’s 25% ownership in United is expected to be confirmed, and an official bid for Ashworth has been made.
