Gary Neville provides worrying update about Man United’s FFP situation

Manchester United, like the majority of Premier League teams, remained quiet during the January transfer window.

Due to Financial Fair Play restrictions, clubs throughout the league were cautious in their spending.

Erik ten Hag used the January transfer window to offload players who were no longer needed at Old Trafford. Jadon Sancho, Donny van de Beek, Facundo Pellistri, and Hannibal Mejbri were among the more notable departures.

There were few incomings for United. During the summer, the team signed high-priced players such as Mason Mount, Rasmus Hojlund, and Andre Onana.

Gary Neville, a former United player, provided a concerning update on the team’s FFP issue this morning while appearing on Sky Sports.

Neville acknowledged that United are pushing the boundaries in terms of breaking the rules when discussing the quiet window and how point deductions have prevented some teams from spending more.

“I think the main thing is that FFP appears to be hitting, you know. I know Manchester United, a club that you could argue has spent and spent hundreds of millions of pounds, is on the verge of achieving FFP. It’s not just Everton and Nottingham Forest doing it near the bottom of the league right now, trying to catch up; it’s the clubs right at the top, and we’re having to move forward with a little bit more caution,” Neville said.

Clubs are keeping a closer eye on their backs now that FFP is catching up with them and severe penalties are being imposed.
