Anthony Gordon, a winger for Newcastle United, was fortunate to avoid suffering a major injury early in Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup quarterfinal matchup against Chelsea.

Eddie Howe’s team should have been playing against ten men for the most of the match, but they were eliminated from the competition at Stamford Bridge on penalties.

Moises Caicedo, a midfield player for Chelsea, was booked early for a challenge from behind on Anthony Gordon. The Ecuadorian international received a yellow card from Jarred Gillett after the incident, which left the 22-year-old in a heap.

Replays, however, revealed that the tackle was a complete horror. Gordon should have been sent off after Caicedo ran his studs down the back of his leg. Luckily, the former Brighton player avoided a red card because there was no video assistant referee present to examine the incident.

Caicedo’s yellow card in the Carabao Cup quarterfinal would have undoubtedly been upgraded to a red card if video assistant refereeing had been in place. Gary Neville expressed his opinion in this way on his official X account in response to the challenge.

Moises Caicedo should have been sent off against Newcastle, according to Gary Neville.

Neville immediately responded to Caicedo’s horrific tackle of Gordon in the second minute on X, which was formerly known as Twitter.

He wrote just one word in his post: “Red.”

Neville summarizes everything in a single word. It ought to have been crimson. So early in the game, Caicedo was extremely fortunate.

Afterwards, Gordon was substituted early in the second half for Matt Ritchie, the attacker who had been forced off. It’s unclear if Caicedo’s tackle had any influence.

In the Carabao Cup match against Newcastle, Levi Colwill also had good fortune.
Another incident that could have led to a Chelsea player being sent off occurred in the first half.

Levi Colwill put his studs right up to Emil Krafth’s shin just before halftime, following the Newcastle defender’s sliding tackle to win the ball. Colwill was the second Chelsea player who most likely ought to have seen red during the Carabao Cup match at Stamford Bridge; the Swede was obviously in pain.

On Tuesday night, a number of significant decisions went against Newcastle, and as a result, the Magpies were eliminated from the Carabao Cup on penalties.
