News from Standard CharteredCody Gakpo on Burnley’s win, Nunez’s “great” finish, and other things

After Darwin Nunez’s outstanding performance on Boxing Day helped Liverpool defeat Burnley 2-0, Cody Gakpo paid tribute to the player.

Nunez put on a strong performance at Turf Moor, earning the Carlsberg Player of the Match trophy after the game. He also scored the first goal for the Reds with a beautiful finish.

Then, Jürgen Klopp’s team moved to the top of the Premier League table thanks to a late goal from Diogo Jota.

Gakpo may also be pleased with his performance that evening, since the Dutchman set up Nunez’s goal.

Gakpo told Liverpoolfc.com, “It was a good combination for the goal.” “Nunez got fouled, but he quickly moved to the edge of the box to watch the play unfold, and it was a fantastic finish.”

He is a striker, and goals are what you want to score. It always seems like you get freedom with the first one you get after a long period, and hopefully now he can continue to browse the internet.

Midway through the first half, Gakpo himself was denied a goal when his rebound conversion was disallowed due to a foul committed against Nunez.

He went on, “Darwin claimed he didn’t touch their guy, but I haven’t seen it back yet.” “We need to address the referee’s decision, as it is.”

He went on to say, “The last minutes are always like a little bit nervy because it’s always kind of risky when you are 1-0 up and you have a lot of chances but don’t finish it off.

“However, I believe Diogo scored an incredible goal to make it 2-0, and that was the end of the game.”

Liverpool will host Newcastle United at Anfield on New Year’s Day, giving them five days before they return to action.

And Gakpo says they are happy with their season-long progress, having completed half of the Premier League campaign.

He declared, “You have to be happy because we are at the top of the table.” “Although we have had a strong run, we lost our last two Premier League home games.

“We are doing well, but we need to maintain our momentum going into the second half of the season and perform exceptionally well both during and after it.”
