In Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup loss to Chelsea, Newcastle’s defender Kieran Trippier committed two costly mistakes.

After making costly mistakes at Stamford Bridge, Kieran Trippier, a defender for Newcastle, received a supportive message from Chelsea star Mykhaylo Mudryk. The full-back nearly missed his penalty in the shootout and was partially to blame for the Blues’ late equalizer in their Carabao Cup quarterfinal match on Tuesday night.

In the 92nd minute, Trippier tried to head the ball back to his goalkeeper Martin Dubravka after it was overhit to the back post. The England international, though, miscalculated the strength of his pass, giving Mudryk the opportunity to pounce and put his strike into the back of the net, energizing the home crowd.

After Trippier’s shot struck the post and ricocheted wide, Chelsea won 4-2 on penalties to complete their comeback. Djordje Petrovic then saved Matt Ritchie’s attempt. The former Tottenham player had been making mistakes lately, and the defender was devastated as his teammates tried to comfort him.

In spite of this, Mudryk continues to think highly of Trippier. He shared a photo of the two players shortly before he scored, writing, “Kieran, I just wanna say to you, stay strong, sometimes s*** happens, but I think you are a strong footballer no matter what.”

Although Trippier has played a major role in Newcastle’s success over the last few seasons, Eddie Howe may decide to rotate the former Burnley player out of the starting lineup due to Timo Livramento’s strong play and Trippier’s recent performances.

Regarding Trippier’s exhibits, Howe clarified, saying, “As I have stated numerous times, he is an immensely strong character. He’s a game-changing addition who has elevated the group to entirely new heights. Given that he takes great pride in his technical proficiency and the caliber of his defensive play, I’m sure he doesn’t feel great.

Since he has been the lifeblood of that, we will support and care for him in the other direction now that he has given us so much. Trippier’s availability for Newcastle’s match against Luton Town this weekend at Kenilworth Park is still unknown.
