Chelsea, which currently sits in 10th place this season, spent over £350 million on new players in the summer, but they haven’t been able to contend for a top four spot.

The star player for Chelsea, Noni Madueke, is reportedly “frustrated” with Mauricio Pochettino’s lack of playing time thus far this season. After just over 200 football minutes under the Argentine, the 21-year-old finds himself lower on the attacking pecking order.

The Blues’ attacking options were strengthened with the addition of Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, and Christopher Nkunku during the summer. Nevertheless, Madueke hasn’t played a full ninety minutes this season after sitting out the previous five games.

When the English winger joined the Blues from PSV in January, he appeared like an exciting addition, but his impact hasn’t quite lived up to expectations. Now, just a year after joining the team, an article from Team Talk suggests that the England Under-21 international is considering a surprise departure from Stamford Bridge.

According to the report, Chelsea may agree to pay up to £35 million in exchange for his permanent departure. Such a sum would go a long way toward facilitating the acquisition of a new striker, as West London moves for Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen are both being linked to them.

Due to a minor injury, Madueke was unable to participate in last night’s match against Manchester United. Due to the continued ineligibility of players like Madueke, Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, and Ben Chilwell, Pochettino is left with few options in his squad.

The 21-year-old’s future is unclear, but it surprised me much to read reports that he may be leaving permanently after agreeing to a contract that would have kept him in the team until 2030 back in January. If declared fit, Madueke could make a comeback to the matchday roster to take on Everton this coming weekend. He will undoubtedly play more minutes during the hectic schedule of festive games.

Football.london is aware that January is probably going to be a slow month for the Blues because new signings are largely dependent on sales that are made elsewhere. Given the uncertain futures of players like Ian Maatsen and Trevoh Chalobah, Madueke may be one Chelsea star ready for a new challenge.
